The Hollywood Leftist Agenda Strikes Again!!!

As if we weren’t getting enough of this out of Washington, Hollywood has to chime in and contribute to America’s wealth envy crowd.

This latest attempt is in the form of the new Cameron Diaz movie “The Box”. Now in the interest of fairness, I have not seen this movie. And, again, to be fair, probably won’t. It is not because I do not think that this movie is Oscar material, no it is because of the message that it send to the reality TV adoring, Sub-Average IQ having, Lemming Generation of Americans. This is same set of Americans who believed that Lord Obama was the end all and be all of problems in America.

From everything that I read and seen regarding this movie, the premise of the movie is this:

A man and his wife are given the opportunity to gain wealth with the press of a button. The catch is that someone unknown to them will die if the press the button. Needless to say, they press the button and set of events is set forth that eventually comes back on them.

Simple enough.

My real problem is the underlying message that wealth for one person is always at the detriment of another. These same Obama supporting Americans will see this and believe it be confirmation that “people with money” are evil.

Now, there are some people that obtained their wealth through nefarious means (think Madoff), but those are few and far between. Most of a wealthy people earned their money through hard work and taking chances that others would not. They risked their savings to chase their dream and worked their fingers to the bone make it realized. Rarely does the obtainment of wealth result in death of anyone but the one striving to gain wealth.

Of course, it is easy to demonize the minority of people. However, these people make the most contributions of society. Without their hard work and ingenuity, we wouldn’t have the television that brings us the mind numbing American Idol. We wouldn’t have the video game consoles that are contributing to rapidly increasing waste lines of America’s youth. Finally, we wouldn’t have the doctors that Obama and the Capitol Hill thug Democrats are so eager to enslave through health care “reform”.

Ok, maybe I was wrong, the rich are pressing that button to kill us all!

The CReEP of the American Citizenry Act of 2009

Recently I had a lively discussion with some followers on twitter regarding the way Congress has been ramming legislation through the house. Their tactics in this endeavor have been less than ethical and certainly not responsible. The, bully in a brassiere, Speaker of the House calls for votes on lengthy controversial legislation before any member voting on it has the chance to read it fully, much less evaluate what this legislation will do. So, in response to these activities I have written my on legislation as a cure. The following is the Congressional Responsibility to Ensure Protection of the American Citizenry Act of 2009. I expect it to be voted like the others, without reading it.
Here is the bill:

In order to ensure protection of the citizen of these United States of America, we shall enact into law these rules dictating our behavior regarding voting on new legislation.

1) Each member of Congress is now, required by law, to read thoroughly every piece of legislation that makes it out of committee to be voted on.

2) To ensure that the bill is comprehended entirely by each member, the Government Accountability Office will prepare an exam based on the language of the bill.

a) This exam will be all multiple choice and contain one to two questions for every three pages written. For example: if the bill has (like the Health Care Reform bill) 3000 pages, members can count on an exam that will have approximately 1500 questions.

b) Additionally, there will be one question from every piece of “Pork” contained within the language of the bill.

i) “Pork” is defined by this bill is anything that is written into the bill to assure passage by reluctant members, that has nothing to do with the original intent of the bill. For example: If a bill’s intent is to reform the Tax Code, then it cannot contain funding for a construction project within the district of a key Representative or Senator.

3) In order to maintain the highest standards for the American people a passing grade of 75 percent is required to vote on that particular bill with only a simple majority needed of the voting members needed for a bill to pass.

4) Any Senator or Representative that does not achieve the minimum pass grade will NOT be permitted to vote on said bill and failing to take the exam will result in a failing grade.

5) A fine equal to one-third the member’s salary will be levied against any member for each failure.

6) Upon the failure of three exams, the member will be censured and lose all benefits and pay, for life.

7) To prevent simple “Present” votes or abstentions, members of Congress will only be permitted to miss out on three votes per fiscal year. Any failure to vote on a bill in excess of the allowed times will counted as exam failures and aggregated with them. For example: if a Senator or Representative fails one exam and abstains from another fines of two-thirds of their salary will result, and so on.

8) In order to provide ample time for the preparation for these exams, members will be given a minimun one 24 hours period of time for every 200 pages of text in the bill to run consecutively. For example: a for a 2000 page bill, each member of congress will be given 10 consecutive days to examine the bill.

9) All exams must be taken by the members within 96 hours of the end of the preparation time. At the end of the exam period all results (of pass and fails) will be posted to the Congressional website and a statement with the results will be made available to media outlets.

10) Any member of Congress caught cheating on these exams will immediately be censured resulting in a loss of pay and benefits for life.

11) Fines of half of the salary will be assessed for any person calling a vote on the bill before this time period has elapsed. After this person has called two vote before the elapsed time, they will be censured and lose pay and benefits for life.

12) Amendments to the Constitution are subject to these rules as well as those laid out within the Constitution.

13) Amendments to this bill may be passed in order to create higher standards, but no amendment to the bill may loosen the constraints proposed here in the original text.

Deferred Gratification

Today in America we have become a fast paced culture. We like everything from food to entertainment on our timetable. We do not want to wait on anything. This embedded idea has fundamentally changed our way of life. No more are the days where we consider our actions before we commit to them. We just do. This has to change. This sort of mentality has led to a profound degradation in our values and ethics.

In the age of my grandparents people made mistakes, but these miscalculations we easier to overcome. Why? They exercised forethought. They evaluated every outcome of each decision. They did this because that is how they were taught. Their parents taught them that problems became surmountable or avertable when time was spent thinking about actions beforehand.
Unfortunately, some how these principles were lost in the rearing of subsequent generations. How did this happen? Parents became increasingly more aware of what others did or had. This led them to becoming more egocentric. They were more concerned with what they needed rather than what their children needed. And it is this lesson that they passed on.

The children of my generation, and their children, want everything now. They would rather acquire something now using the funds they had allocated for more pressing uses. We have seen this over and over. We have deadbeat Dads running around creating more liabilities that they cannot pay for. We have parents that would rather play “Keep up with the Jones’” rather than save for their kids college expenses. The list goes on and on.

Wake up people! Parents it is NOT your job to be your kids’ friends. It IS your job to make sure that your children are equipped with the correct tools to make the best decisions possible. This happens by setting the right example for them. First and foremost you must teach them that it always better to think your actions through before committing to them. Prevention of any problem is easier than living with the consequences. Deferring gratification builds character and makes opportunities limitless.

What Conservatives need?

We conservatives have a big problem. I am not sure we understand the nature of the problem. Our problem is lack of Leadership.

Within our movement we do not suffer from a lack of leaders, we have plenty of them. We have the best business leaders. We have the best political thinkers. We just don’t have, for lack of a better way of putting it, our Barack Obama.

What President Obama has done for the Democratic Party is tremendous. His ascendency to President of the United States is unprecedented. He rose from lawyer to the Oval Office in less than a decade. How we ask ourselves? He provided the Democrats the face and voice they needed to achieve unabated power in our government. We need someone who has those gifts. We need someone who can draw the unheralded from their political slumber.

This person must be of unimpeachable integrity, unlike Sanford and Ensign. Their integrity will be challenged from all sides from the left and the media. The Democrats hold us conservatives to much higher standard than they hold themselves. This has been seen time and time again. Any leader that we have will be subjected the liberal’s and the media’s intense scrutiny.

This leader must possess the charisma to speak to those in the middle. The moderates are who make or break elections. The die-hards for both parties can be counted on to vote along party lines, but the moderates are the real election pay dirt. Whoever becomes our leader has to sway these people.

The leader of the Conservative movement MUST be able to debate any topic thrown at them, at any time. While conservatives prefer to debate on a one to one basis, the liberals choose to swarm and overwhelm their victim. Our leader has to have the quickness of wit to counter each of the advancing attacks and put them down permanently.

The new leader must organize us. They must form us into a united front. Right now the liberals are basking in the glow of victory. It will not be long before the opposing motives within their movement begin to crumble their unification. We as conservative have a pretty narrow set of motives, making unification much more simplified. Without real leadership we are disjointed and unable to defeat the liberal agenda.

In short, our leader must have “Presidential” charisma. They must be able to “speak” to the moderates and enlighten them as to what America can be. This person must have the highest moral character. Finally, this person must be able to rally the troops into a single front. They must possess the powers of the Great Barack Obama, only without the crutch of a teleprompter.

The Economics of Health Care Reform

Much has been said about the current state of health care in America. The prices have been increasingly and more companies are trying to reduce their cost by offloading more of that cost to the employee. This has many up in arms in Washington. The current administration wants to push this through at the pace which his other reforms have taken. However, the reforms proposed defy basic economic theory and will not work.

The two most basic concepts in economics are the laws of supply and demand. The law of supply states that as the price increases the quantity supplied also increases. This happens because when prices increase more firms are enticed to enter the market and additional supply is created. The law of demand states that as the price decreases, the quantity demanded increases. This is because as prices fall more can afford or want said good or service. Where supply and demand meet becomes the prevailing market price.

This is how these laws apply to health care reform. The government wants to increase the amount of people covered by health insurance; this is an increase is a shift in the demand curve. Without a corresponding shift in the supply curve, this causes an increase in price. This makes the cost of health care increase that much more.

Now, you might ask what is the government steps in and limits the price that can be charged for the health care. This is what economists call a price ceiling.

This is when a price is set below the prevailing market price in order control price. The problem with this is that the when the price is fixed, less firm are willing to produce supply. Where the price is fixed in the graph above, the quantity demanded is higher than the quantity supplied. This creates shortages. Mainly through doctors leaving the workplace and increased demand. This will lead to health care rationing, which I certainly don’t want someone telling what procedures I can have.

The next issue that the politicians have repeated is that they want high quality health care for all people. Again according to basic economic principals cannot happen. This is due the production possibilities frontier. The graph below shows all of the possibilities that the happen within a given market. Letting X represent quality of health care and Y represent the reduced cost of health care (meaning that the higher go on Y the cheaper the health care will be). On this graph, point A, B, and C are attainable. “A’ equals lower cost health at a lower quantity. ‘B’ equals higher quality health care at a higher cost. ‘C’ equals, while attainable, a market inefficiency because there is a surplus in production ability. However, ‘D’ is completely at of the range of possibilities. As is clearly represented, for unit of production of one, the other must be sacrificed. The only way for this to happen is for the nature of production (cost) to be reduced. This can only be achieved through government spending. How does the government make its money? Through the collection of taxes. So, in order to pay for health care reform taxes will have to be raised, or the massive spending cuts (which is highly unlikely with Democrats in power).

The moral of this story is:
For the government to guide health care, under the current suggestions, we are looking at higher costs, shortages in quality and quantity, and higher taxes. Sounds like a great plan to me.

Socialism in Reality TV

I try never to give ratings to the “entertainment” known as reality TV. However, for the last two weeks my wife and I have been watching this abomination known as “I am a Celebrity, Get me out of Here”. (From here on out I will not use names only refer to people by descriptions, mainly occupation.) This show, as with most Reality TV, has little value or lessons to be learned for society, in my opinion.
I thought this until a story line began to unfold. Kids, this is where you need to pay attention. This is the exact embodiment of what we adults have been screaming about since the 2008 Presidential campaign trail. This show is a microcosm of today’s society. The model is pushing for Socialism in its purest sense.
The woman formerly employed as a model (now she mostly plastic, machine, and evil) claimed illness in order to get out of activities for the teams. Her “disability” exempts her from employment, but she is first in line when spoils are to be divided and consumed. She is a parasite, a welfare recipient.
Only once has the model ever participated in team challenges. Whichever the team wins the food challenge, she is right there claiming starvation. Consuming food that others earned. When the camp duties are to be carried out, she acts like she is above labor and performs such a pathetic job that the others have to go behind here and complete the task right. When two of her own teammates used their brains and their brawn, she laid claim to her share of their pay without their consent, then lied to their faces about it.
This model takes not only their pay, but confiscates items from whoever has something that she wants. She removed a pillow from the basketball player bedding to aid in her comfort. She appropriate a shower kit from one of the comedians, because she uses too much of her own hygiene products. Just like congress, she takes from those around her, claiming that it belongs to society and must serve the greater good for everyone. Thus everyone in the society gets their share.
Kids, are you seeing this? This is exactly what your elected President and Liberal Congress want to do to our great country. If you work hard, they are going to tax you (even more so than their predecessors). They will take your pay. Then they make sure to take their share of your pay. Then they will decide what the parasites (welfare recipients and others) deserve of your pay. Then what scraps have been left behind, they will let you keep. They are going to take from you the monetary manifestation of your body and mind.
OK, I admit that I was wrong, when I said that there no redeemable value to society for reality TV. I feel that only one show has an incredible valuable lesson to be learned for America. So, kids watch and learn.

Liberals love Monopolies!

As I was reading Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin, he made a point that had never occurred to me, in the context to which he made the point. Labor unions are essentially monopolies. They just happen to be one of labor instead of products. This just floored me.

Monopoly as defined by dictionary.com is:
1) exclusive control of a commodity or service in a particular market, or a control that makes possible the manipulation of prices
,or
2) an exclusive privilege to carry on a business, traffic, or service, granted by a government

The key word in the first definition is service. Labor is in its most fundamental form, a service. The union was is control of a commodity that the company needed. As with all monopolies, the individual (or company in this case) has to weigh the choices. Deal with the price you have to pay, or not have the product (or service) at all. As we have seen over the years, unions control that price of labor (salary and benefits). Without the labor, it goes without saying, the company would fail.

In the second definition, the key part is “granted by the government.” The Wagner act of 1935 gave the unions exclusive right to bargain with the companies. Unions were given carte blanche for extorting benefits from the companies. Their power was granted and assured by the power of congress.

Not all monopolies are bad. For instance, when electricity we was first being run to the countryside, the power companies had to be assured a monopoly in order to recoup the loss they accrued in the building the infrastructure. What was the alternative to the monopoly? Not having power! I am sure that would be just fine by the Amish and some extreme left-wing communes around San Francisco. Me on the hand, I am thrilled to sleep in air conditioning in the summer and waste brain cell on endless hours of TV viewing.

The real point to all of this that the Liberals are always demagoguing the “Evil” corporations for having monopolies. When the real case is that there is really is no pure monopolies out there, except maybe the auto unions. So the before they open their mouths maybe the should remember that monopolies put them in power!
